Pebble Beach, Bean Hollow

One of my favorite places to visit along the California coast

is a small stretch of shoreline between Santa Cruz and San Francisco called Pebble Beach (also known as Bean Hollow Beach North).

To be clear, this is not the same Pebble Beach, CA as the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links (south of Monterrey, CA) or the Pebble Beach Tomales Bay State Park (north of San Francisco on Point Reyes). To find the right directions on a map, search for "Pebble Beach at Bean Hollow State Beach".

Known for it's pebbles, fine-grained siltstone, and light-colored sandstone, I love the rich colors and honeycomb weathering, often called tafoni, that forms when salt air attacks sandstone.

This one looks like a profile of a turtle's head.

You can find notecards featuring Bean Hollow images in my Notecard Variety Set 4, Variety Set 5, and Variety Set 6 collections.
